Electronica: second Sighting.

Electronica refers to a wide range of contemporary electronic music designed for a wide range of uses, including foreground listening, some forms of dancing, and background music for other activities; but unlike electronic dance music, it is not specifically made for dancing. The term was first used in the United States in the early 1990s with regards to post-rave global-influenced electronic dance music. Genres such as techno, drum and bass, downtempo, and ambient are among those encompassed by the umbrella term, entering the American mainstream from "alternative" or "underground" venues during the late 1990s. Prior to the adoption of electronica for this purpose, terms such as electronic listening music, trance and intelligent dance music (IDM) were used. The All Music Guide categorizes electronica as a top-level genre on their main page, where they state that electronica includes "dozens of stylistic fusions" ranging from danceable grooves to music for headphones and chillout areas. After beginning as an underground genre in the early 1990s, electronica has grown to influence even mainstream crossover recordings, with one prominent example being Madonna's 2005 Confessions on a Dancefloor, that sold more than 8 million copies worldwide, and debuted at number one in 29 different countries, a world record for a solo artist. Elements of electronica are used today by many popular artists in mainstream music.

Leftfield.



Leftfield were a duo of electronica artists and record producers, Paul Daley (formerly of The Rivals, A Man Called Adam and the Brand New Heavies) and Neil Barnes, formed in 1989 in London, England. The name Leftfield was originally used simply by Neil Barnes for the first single Not Forgotten but after this Paul Daley was involved firstly in remixing songs and then in the creation of following music. The pair were pioneers in the fields of intelligent dance music and progressive house, being among the first to fuse house music with dub and reggae. They furthermore were among the first electronic musicians to incorporate live guest vocalists, along with The Chemical Brothers and Underworld. AC/DC are a hard rock band formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. In the late 1970s, the band Necromandus rehearsed with Ozzy Osbourne and briefly became the first incarnation of his Blizzard of Ozz solo project. The Ozzy Osbourne Band began life as The Blizzard of Ozz. The first line-up of the band featured drummer Lee Kerslake (of Uriah Heep), bassist/lyricist Bob Daisley, (ex Rainbow guitarist) and guitarist Randy Rhoads(of Quiet Riot). The first album was to be titled eponymously, but was later changed to Blizzard of Ozz featuring Ozzy Osbourne. The record company would eventually title the record Ozzy Osbourne, with the album simply annotated Blizzard of Ozz. After this, the band's name was simplified to The Ozzy Osbourne Band. Kerslake and Bob Daisley, however, still refer to that era as the "Blizzard of Ozz". Pat Benatar (born Patricia Mae Andrzejewski on January 10, 1953) is an influential four-time Grammy Award-winning American rock singer with many million and multi-million selling records worldwide. Benatar was the top female rocker and power ballad performer of the 1980s to early 90s.Her single, "Heartbreaker", was released in late 1979 and was an immediate hit, climbing to #23 in the US. Her debut LP, In the Heat of the Night, was even more successful, reaching #12 and establishing Benatar as a new force in rock. The LP featured two covers: John Cougar Mellencamp's "I Need a Lover" and Nick Gilder's "Rated X", as well as the single "We Live for Love", a fusion of rock and New Wave that saw it reach the US Top 30 and become a hit as far away as Australia. In August 1980, Benatar released her second LP, Crimes of Passion, featuring her signature song "Hit Me with Your Best Shot". The single was her first to break the US Top 10 and eventually sold more than 4 million copies in the USA. The album reached US #2 in January 1981 (behind Yoko Ono and John Lennon's Double Fantasy) and a month later, Benatar won her first Grammy Award for "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance" of 1980. Following their 1978 signing to Real Records on the basis of a demo of the song "The Phone Call", the Pretenders quickly rose to critical attention with the January 1979 single, "Stop Your Sobbing" written in 1964 by Ray Davies and produced by Nick Lowe. It was followed in quick succession that year by the popular singles "Kid" in June and "Brass in Pocket" in November — the last regarded as a somewhat tame and commercial song compared to the rest of the band's early output, which nonetheless cracked the U.S. market for the band (reaching #14 on the Billboard Hot 100).The album, Pretenders, was released in January 1980, and was a great success in both the United Kingdom and the U.S., both critically and with chart-topping sales. (Pretenders was subsequently named one of the best albums of all time by VH1 (#52) and Rolling Stone (#155).) The band played the entire album at the noted Heatwave festival in August 1980 near Toronto. That the Pretenders were led by a hard-rocking woman was no small factor in their early breakthrough. With her trademark dark bangs, dark eyeliner, and dark jeans, Hynde appealed to both genders. And due to, as the 1983 Rolling Stone Record Guide would say, "her sheer authenticity as a three-dimensional woman whose sexuality is completely in sync with a superb rock sensibility," she was able to escape many of the clichéd roles of women in rock music.

He Began his recording career in 1947 under contract with Los Angeles based RPM Records.. Many of his early recordings were produced by Sam Phillips who later founded Sun Records. Riley B King. Also did his stint as a disc jockey in Memphis Tennessee, where he gained the nick name “Beale Street Blues boy” it was later shortened to B.B.. in the 1950’s he gained notoriety with such blues hits as “You Know I love you” as well as “Woke up This morning” and “whole Lotta Love” but it wasn’t until 1969 when he would score his first commercial success outside of the blues market with the remake of the Roy Hawkins tune “The Thrill Is Gone” which was a hit on the Pop Charts as well as the R&B charts at the same time. B.B. King quickly became a name synonymous with the Blues and continues to be a mainstay in the R&B Community to this day.

AKA “Slow hand” has been electrifying audiences for the better part of the last Five, count em Five Decades. In his Early Career Clapton became the Guitarist for such bands as John Mayall’s “Blues Breakers” and “The Yardbirds” but it wasn’t until he co Founded the Power Trio Known as “Cream.” along with Bassist Jack Bruce and Drummer Ginger Baker that his prowess as a guitarist would reach legendary status. Although E.C has experimented with various styles throughout his career, His roots remain firmly planted in the blues, and he continues to be one of the most influential musicians of all time.

Often thought of by many as almost a space alien in the way he played the guitar, but in his short time on this earth, and even shorter career, few people have gotten inside of the soul of the instrument in the way Jimi Did. To put a Stratocaster or any other guitar in his hands was to watch it become transformed into a tool of utter magic. Johnny Allen Hendrix (Later Changed to James Marshall Hendrix) was Born on November 27th 1942 in Seattle Washington. In his Early career he gained popularity in England, but it wasn’t until his performances at the Monterey Pop Festival and later at Woodstock that he would gain world wide acclaim. Between the years of 1966 and 1970 in his brief but brilliant career, Jimi Hendrix single handedly changed the way that the electric Guitar could and would be played, his influence in the world of rock guitar, continues to reach newer and younger Musicians well into the 21st century.

Vaughan's first recording band was called Paul Ray and the Cobras. They played at clubs and bars in Austin during the mid-1970s, and released one single.[2] Vaughan later recorded two other singles under the band name The Cobras.[3] Following the break-up of The Cobras, he formed Triple Threat in late 1975, which included bassist Jackie Newhouse, drummer Chris Layton, vocalist Lou Ann Barton, and sax player Johnny Reno. Barton left the band in 1978 to pursue a solo career, followed by Reno in 1979. The three remaining members started performing under the name Double Trouble, inspired by an Otis Rush song of the same name. Vaughan became the band's lead singer. Tommy Shannon, the bass player on Johnny Winter's early albums, replaced Newhouse in 1981. A popular Austin act, Vaughan soon attracted the attention of musicians David Bowie and Jackson Browne. Both Browne and Bowie first caught Vaughan at the 1982 Montreux Jazz Festival, where some members of the audience booed the band because they disliked Double Trouble's hard blues sound; the crowd response was quite different when they were subsequently invited to headline "Blues Night" at the festival in 1985.
In November, 1982, Vaughan recorded in Jackson Browne's studio in downtown Los Angeles. The recordings were brought to the attention of A&R man John Hammond and became Double Trouble's critically acclaimed first album, Texas Flood (1983), produced by Hammond; it featured the top-20 hit "Pride and Joy" and sold 500,000 copies, earning the band a Gold Record. Additionally the album was nominated for a Grammy and its song "Rude Mood" was nominated for best rock instrumental. Vaughan won three categories in the Guitar Player's Readers Poll: "Best New Talent", "Best Blues Album", and "Best Electric Blues Guitarist" (beating out none other than Eric Clapton). He became only the second guitarist in history to win three Guitar Player awards in one year (the first is Jeff Beck). Vaughan won the "Best Electric Blues Guitarist" award every year until 1991.
